Amazing and inspiring that Lucy was still working at 75 years of age and this wasn't her last project. Unfortunately, the writers were flogging the dead horse of the past with scenes like the out-of-control soap bubbles which would have come across as very old-fashioned by 1986 standards.

I remember watching Life With Lucy original run and didn't find it very funny. Times had changed and audiences changed along with it. Cosby Show and Family Ties were big hits at the time. I felt sorry for Lucy as she had three hit shows back to back and then this one was cancelled after 13 episodes. 😢 Always good to see Gale Gordon. 🤗

Henry Fonda doing serial television at the time was probably the most surprising. And there is Ron Howard appearing in yet another production with a major star. The pace of this show, compared to today's sitcoms, is downright molasses. Janet Blair, who played Betty was a major band singer with Hal Kemp, where Doris Day and Dinah Shore were her contemporaries before she got into movies in the 1940's and TV in the 1950's. I think her last appearance was on Murder She, Wrote. Darleen Carr who played the daughter Cindy was the youngest sister of Charmian Carr who played Liesl in Sound of Music. In fact her singing was so good, she covered for her sister on the high notes for the Sound of Music soundtrack. Her husband was Jameson Parker, who played AJ Simon on the TV show Simon & Simon. She is still with us at 73 years old. Mike Wixted appeared in famous movies as a child, but mostly did tons of network television shows and now writes like his dad did. But he resembles his mother, actress Connie Cavendish the most. He is 62 now and lives in the SoCal area last I read.

I remember late in this series' run they decided to change the tone of the opening titles from "tender family dram(edy)" with its "Just a family on Primrose Lane" theme song to "police action-drama" with quick-paced shots of Fonda in "action" with "suspenseful" theme music. I don't know to what degree the tone of the show itself actually changed, if at all. BTW the credits show that the singer of the theme song is Mike Minor, who had played "Steve Elliott" on _Petticoat Junction,_ who marries Betty Jo Bradley. I also learned this morning that he was the son of _Smith Family_ producer Don Fedderson.

8:58 "You make one teen-age crack about 'the fuzz', and 15-year-old or not, I'm gonna ground you for a YEAR!" My, how she respects the first amendment! Then, when Bob asks, "Why'd you even take her in?", she warns him with "Bob!", not even letting him ask legitimate questions!

I liked this show. Henry Fonda played a policeman here but there was a lot less police action than your typical police show. The show centered more on his family life.

One of the dullest dud series to ever appear on TV. It died a horrible death after the first year. Instead of a thrilling cop theme, some yutz instead gave them a slow sleepy song called Primrose Lane. Luckily Ronnie Howard saved his career by getting on Happy Days. I later met Fonda and had the good sense not to mention the Smith disaster to him. I also never heard him volunteer to ever speak of it... to anybody.

They mentioned Desi Arnaz's new film film "Forever Darling" so this clip is from 1956 not 1954

I was 12 when this premiered. I watched it but it was a strange show. Could have been a good drama like the later shows Family or Eight is Enough. But it couldn't decide if it was drama, comedy, or police show. The lighting was too bright, the sets looked cheap. Fonda was somewhat old (65) to play this dad character. (Janet Blair was 50.)

It was a forerunner to "Law & Order", which came over two decades later.

I loved Willism Tell as a kid and Robin Hood to im hoping Talking Pictures continues to show them proper Role models not like the namby pambies today just good stories with a moral even a 10 year can grasp excellant low budget TV at its best

The show itself was a disaster and a particular embarrassment for Oscar winner Henry Fonda. Around this same time, Bette Davis had also flopped in a television pilot SITCOM that featured her as an interior decorator. Things like this led Katherine Hepburn to remark how she would never stoop to doing television no matter how desperate she was to get movie roles.

Interestingly, the main draw for this show, after Henry Fonda, was Ron Howard, whom so many people remembered from "The Andy Griffith Show". This was basically his transition to the celebrated fame that came to him via "Happy Days".

I think you mixed up your alternate universes because there's no way this show aired for 39 episodes and I don't have the faintest memory of it. We only had 3 channels in those days so it seems impossible for me to not even have a slight recall of this.

Wow, we had Bewitched from '64-'72, I Dream Of Jeannie from '65-'70, and, to a lesser degree, Nanny & The Professor from '70-'71. This show about "normal guy with magical girlfriend" came along fairly late to the game. Maybe it failed bc people were tired of the concept by then. Or, maybe sitcom expectations had changed with the dawn of more sophisticated/mature shows like The Mary Tyler Moore Show, All In The Family, Maude, etc - after all, shows like The Brady Bunch and Partridge Family didn't survive past '74 either.

This show was created by Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, the writers whose film credits include, among others, Splash, Parenthood, both City Slickers movies and A League of their Own.

I remember this show. I liked the song. Haven't heard a thing about it since it went off the air --- until now.
